WWI Questions

1. WWI began on July 28, 1914 after Prince Francis Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated in Sarajevo by a Serbian nationalist, which gave Austria-Hungary a great excuse to attack their neighbor Serbia. The Entente Cordiale and Allies were Serbia, Russia, France, Belgium, Great Britain, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Rhodesia, South Africa, Montenegro, Japan, Italy, Portugal, Romania, the United States of America, and Greece. The Central Powers were Austria-Hungary, Germany, the Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria.

2. The United States officially entered WWI on April 6, 1917 after the Germans sunk the British ocean liner The Lusitania carrying mostly passengers, 159 of which were Americans, and after the British intercepted a telegram from Germany telling Mexico that if they sided with the Germans they would be giving U.S. land in return.

3.
4. WWI finally ended on November 11, 1918 when an armistice was finally agreed on. The war finally ended because Russia had pulled out at the start of their own revolution, causing the fight in the East to end. From there the Germans became weaker especially with the Americans new and fresh troops being shipped to Europe. Eventually the Versailles Treaty was agreed upon.
